On June 11th, hundreds gathered in Parc-Extension to mourn the loss of a family of four killed in an Islamophobic attack in London, Ont on June 6th. Many politicians, including Montreal mayor Valérie Plante, were present and gave speeches condemning Islamophobia. Politician Benoit Charette of the Coalition Avenir Québec was booed during his speech due to his support of Loi 21, an Islamophobic law in Quebec that prevents public servants from wearing ‘religious wear’ and disproportionately targets Muslim women.
