Join us for a holiday potluck December 12 from 7-9pm (1440 rue Mackay) for some food, drinks, and time with fellow CUTV community. We’ll have cool CUTV merch to give away, a special showing of a historic CUTV Christmas Special, and your favourite equipment depot guy DJ Fraser will be spinnin’ mad tracks. Come celebrate the end of the semester and 2024!

CUTV community member Silas Goodman will be returning this year for another in depth wireless lav mic tutorial. Join us on Thursday November 28 from 6-8pm at the CUTV studio to learn about wireless mics and sound recording from an expert!

We’re looking for new board members to join us!

The Board of Directors is made up of student and community members. You must be a CUTV member to be on the board, and all board positions are volunteer. The board meets once a month, and hold yearly terms.

Not sure how to be a board member? Not only do we provide training for our board members, but there will also be a workshop on Collective Governance: How to be an Excellent Board member on November 4 right before the CUTV AGM so you can get up to speed on the duties of board membership.

CUTV and CSA L’Achoppe are excited to co-host a screening of the award winning documentary YINTAH, with a Q&A from local director Michael Toledano, about the making of the film.

Spanning more than a decade, YINTAH follows Howilhkat Freda Huson and Sleydo’ Molly Wickham as their nation reoccupies and protects their ancestral lands from the Canadian government and several of the largest fossil fuel companies on earth.

The film will be screened in English with French subtitles, and will be followed by a discussion period with Michael Toledano, one of the three directors. The discussion will take place in English, with whispered translation into French available.

Join us at CSA L’Achoppe, 1800 Letourneaux, on October 11. Doors open at 6:00pm, screening at 7:00 pm. Free admission, voluntary contributions accepted.

Accessibility: l’Achoppe is located on the first floor, with a 31-inch-wide front door. There’s a 9-inch step up to the door, and then into the hall there’s a final 7-inch step. The bathroom door is 27 inches wide. KN95 masks will be available thanks to Covid Action Now.

Community University Television—Concordia is hiring a Community Engagement Coordinator. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Community Engagement Coordinator will oversee CUTV’s on-location programs and projects, including: our grassroots coverage fund, workshops and events, membership outreach activities, volunteer coordination, and production.

The successful applicant will demonstrate some of the following: 

• experience organizing events and communicating with the public,
• project management skills, 
• a strong commitment to progressive values or connection to social movements, 
• experience with video and audio production, 
• familiarity with campus life at Concordia.

The job posting will be open until the position is filled, but applicants are strongly advised to apply by August 18 (9pm ET), and will ideally be available to start work in late August.

Hours and compensation

• Compensation $20-$24 per hour
• 30 hours per week 
• This position is covered by CUTV’s group health insurance plan
• The position requires a minimum of three days/week of in-office work

Station Manager core responsibilities:

• Plan outreach initiatives and campaigns meant to target CUTV members, Concordia students, and Montrealers who may benefit from CUTV services

• Plan workshops and manage logistics for in person and online events
• Coordinate grant disbursements and track projects (both for the GCF and for pre-existing CUTV projects)
• Coordinate volunteers events and initiatives
• Oversee communications with membership and public (mostly in the form of email newsletters, website copywriting, and other forms of communication)
• Helping to support pre-existing CUTV productions through grant writing, volunteer coordination and administrative support 
• Working alongside CUTV interns to promote services
• Working alongside the equipment and spaces coordinator and helping to manage the office space

Qualifications and experience:

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
• Involvement with social movements, labour organizing, or other activism
• Proficiency with MacOS, Google Drive and audio and video editing software
• Experience in video/audio production
• Ability to work autonomously
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize short and long term tasks
• Problem solving skills

Assets:

• Spoken and written French
• University degree in journalism, communications, film production, or another related field
• Currently or previously enrolled as a student at Concordia university
• Experience using mailchimp, canva, adobe creative suite, or da vinci resolve
