Description: Join investigative reporter Isabel Macdonald as she discusses the key elements of investigative journalism. This workshop will cover investigative research methods, what makes a great investigative report, and how to access that top-secret information you’ve been looking for!
Bio: Isabel Macdonald is an investigative reporter, media scholar, and educator based in Montreal. Her journalism work has taken her from interviewing undocumented immigrants who cared for the horses of Lou Dobbs (a former CNN host who repeatedly vilified such unauthorized immigrant workers as an “invasion” of “illegal aliens”), to earthquake-affected communities in Haiti, where her work helped expose major health and safety issues in an internationally-financed shelter project (and prompted the foundation responsible to commit to fixing these problems). Her reporting has been published by The Nation, The Guardian, The Montreal Gazette, and El Diario, amongst others, and has also been featured on television programs including Good Morning America, BBC World Service, and Democracy Now!
